Reed Solomon is an error correction setting that allows a 2D barcode symbol to endure some damage without causing loss of data.

Sometimes printed 2D barcodes are smudged or faxed and lose quality. As a way to prevent misreads, ECL maintains the data in the barcode so that it scans without any errors.
