How to automatically scan a barcode and print new barcode label from database lookup

We have a children's clothing business and all new inventory has to be scanned, a new label printed with the barcode, product description, and retail price.

When there are 1000's of items to be scanned, it becomes a major task, so we propose to build a small conveyor belt where one person places the garment on the belt which transports it past a barcode scanner where a new label is printed; the next person in line places this label on the garment and the person at the end of the belt places the rebadged garment into a box.

So what we want is for the barcode scanner to automatically enter the barcode into an Excel spreadsheet, gather the new information via an exact lookup formula (I have this), and print the replacement label.

The question is how to do this in VBA as a fully automated operation; whereby a new scanned barcode triggers the chain of events.

We use Excel 2004 for Macintosh.

Operating System: Mac OSX (Snow Leopard)

Application: Excel, or Filemaker 8.5

The barcode scanner will function similarly to data manually entered into an application using a keyboard. Based on the requirement, it looks as if you would need to investigate the process of how to handle the data after it is entered into Excel. Consider seeking a Development consultant that can provide advice about how to accomplish this using VBA. You could also post the question on the Mr. Excel forum. Someone there may be able to provide steps to do this when data is entered into an application using a keyboard or scanner.
