Something Is Wrong With Files Downloaded On Windows After Upgrade


We recently upgraded to Windows 8.x and noticed we keep getting bizarre behavior when trying to open tutorial Office documents, product DLLs, and other types of files.

What should we do?

Windows 8 employs an additional level of protection that previous versions of Windows lacked. If a file (of certain types) was not created on the same computer, Windows 8.x can detect it and will grant it limited functionality, which can have unforeseen consequences.

To check if this is happening to a specific file (and unblock it):
· Right-click the file
· Choose Properties
· Go to the General tab
· Under the Advanced button, choose Unblock:

To permanently remove this feature (this is not recommended), follow these instructions from Microsoft.
