Code 39 Font Size and Scanability

We are using IDAutomation Code 39 barcode fonts. Our barcode scanners are not scanning the barcodes, which contain 15 alphanumeric characters.

Can we solve the issue by increasing the barcode size, or should we use Code 128 fonts?

Operating System: Windows

Application: VB & Oracle 10G

As a general rule of thumb, any more than 11-13 characters and Code 39 may be hard to read due to the scanning width (on most* scanners).

There are some resolution recommendations we make, but for 15 alphanumeric characters, Code 128 may want to be tried, as it is more efficient, and therefore has a smaller footprint.

*This is a general statement – each scanner has different abilities (see the respective scanner manual). This may take trial and error with a scanner to determine the maximum barcode width the scanner will read from a specific resolution/barcode combination.
