How to place a tab command between data encoded in a barcode


Can TAB, RETURNS, and other functions for Code 128 and Code 39 be placed between data in the barcode? What we want is a barcode with: (data)(tab)(data) so data can be entered automatically in multiple fields on a form after a barcode scan.

Yes, the Code 128 and Code 39 symbology can produce tabs in the barcode. 2D barcodes such as Data Matrix and QR-Code can also encode returns and tabs.

Scan with the IDAutomation Barcode Data Decoder, which will show you the tab and return commands. Available for Android and iOS.

To generate a TAB in Code 39, use $I and make sure your scanner is set to Full ASCII or Extended 39.

To generate a TAB in Code 128, you need to set the Apply Tilde property to True and use ~009 for a TAB.

To generate a TAB in Data Matrix or QR-Code, you need to set the Process Tilde property to True and use ~d009 for a TAB.
