Resolved Questions

If I'm trying to print a barcode using 128A font would I need to reprogram my Symbol scanner?

I have a symbol Y757A0 handheld scanner and I'm trying to scan the BC C128 Medium IDAutomation font, just to a Word Pad document, but it isn't reading it at all. I've printed it at size 28 font and size 14, and neither one did anything. I am able to scan a 3 of 9 font just fine.

Operating System: Windows XP

Application: WordPad

As a font, Code 128 requires a font encoder to format the data. Without the encoder, the barcode will not scan.

To generate a valid barcode, Code 39 (3 of 9) uses asterisks or exclamation points as start/stop characters. Code 128 cannot use the same start/stop characters.

To generate a valid Code 128 barcode in Word using fonts, there are a few options:

NOTE: The Barcode Add-In for Excel and Word will only generate Code 128 Auto.

OPTION 1

Code 128 Font (barcode font) with IDAutomation VBA to generate CODE128A

OPTION 2

Code 128 Font (barcode font) with Word Barcode Add-In

OPTION 3

Code 128 Font (barcode font) with Excel Barcode Add-In (Mail Merge into Word)

If the data is encoded with the Barcode Add-In or other font encoder, then verify the font size. Code 128 must be set to certain font sizes to meet a valid XDimension.
