Using A Scanner in an RDP, Remote or Terminal Server

We are remoting into a Windows VM (virtual machine) we use for testing. How can we get an IDAutomation scanner to scan into the VM from the machine we are on?

Operating System: Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix

In general*, scanners are treated as local input resources (similar to a keyboard). Your RDP/remote/terminal client may have similar settings to these that may be used:

The above will allow you to plug in a scanner locally (preferably before starting the remote session) and be able to scan into your remote computer/VM.

*Since the respective operating system manages the drivers and resources, this is outside the scope of support IDAutomation provides and it is mentioned here to help clients - use these settings, your expertise, and the software vendor’s documentation as a guide.
