Code 39 Barcode does not scan

I am using the Code 39 barcode fonts that encode the space character without having to use the = symbol.

I am applying the start/stop characters around the data so I know it is properly created. But it will not scan.

*12345* where the * are the start/stop characters.

This is my barcode:

VERIFY:
(1) The start/stop characters are appended to the Code 39 data. For example, appending start/stop characters to the data is 12345, which will produce *12345*

(2) The Code 39 barcode font is set to a valid point size. View the Code 39 Size Specifications.

The issue is caused by the symbol representing the space character.

In Word, when the data is highlighted, an extra space becomes part of the highlighted data.

When the Code 39 Font which is part of the Fonts with Barcode Symbol in Space character is applied to the encoded data, the font recognizes that extra space and determines that it needs to be encoded. This is the downfall of using the Code 39 Fonts that encode a space character by hitting the space bar.

1. To overcome the issue, highlight the extra barcode/space character.

2. Set it to any other font type and the extra bars will disappear.

3. The barcode will be scannable.
