I would like to print a code 39 extended barcode from within Access for a value that contains a space.

I would like to print a code 39 extended barcode from within Access for a value that contains a space. So far, I am unable to get the barcode to recognize the space. The value is "CENT A3D". If I did not have to worry about spaces, I could use code 39, and use a formula like '*%'&[VALUE]&'%*' to create the barcode. With code 39 extended and the space appearing in the middle of my VALUE, I use a formula like '*'&[VALUE]&'*' because the percent (%) sign seems to replace characters in VALUE. The result is that the barcode looks okay, but when I scan it, the space disappears.

Operating System: Windows 2003

Application: Access 2010

The Code 39 symbology cannot recognize a space character as a space for its data. There are several ways to combat the issue including three solutions discussed in the forum post regarding Code 39 and Spaces.

Based on the information, option 3 might be the best solution. Also, within Access, consider using the ! as start/stop characters instead of the *.

For example:
'!"&[VALUE]&'!'
