Error in Crystal Reports after Upgrading

We purchased the Code 128 Barcode Font Package in July 2003.

At the time, we were using Windows 2000, SQL Server 7, and Crystal Reports 7.

Everything is fine on the old system.

I am attempting to use the Crystal Reports Barcode Font Encoder UFL in Crystal Reports 2008 – in some instances, the barcode prints, in others, the report program just crashes.

I have tried using Basic syntax - sometimes works and sometimes I get the following error:

-2147191871 The matching ' for this string is missing

Can you offer any help?

Both the previous UFLs and the current UFLs are compatible with all Crystal Reports Versions 7 and higher.

From the description, the error The matching ' for this string is missing would not be caused by the barcode font or UFL encoder functions, but it might be caused by an error in the Crystal runtime or an error in the Crystal syntax.

With that said, the updated Linear UFL is free for download. It comes with updated function definitions, updated directions, and an updated installer.

Update:
It has been confirmed that when a Carriage Return (CR, ASCII 13) is encoded into the data, it is sometimes misinterpreted by Crystal Reports.

Solution:
1. In the datasource, replace all instances of chr(13), or its equivalent, with an alternate string, such as “[CR]”, “<CR>”, or another unique string.

2. Once the data is passed into Crystal Reports, use the Replace function to convert the “[CR]”, “<CR>”, or other unique string in the DataToEncode* back to chr(13) or its equivalent.

*Use the Replace function immediately after DataToEncode has been assigned the data from the datasource.

In the old system, the barcodes work like a dream.

However, in our new system, we are trying to use the old UFL and fonts.

Are these compatible with the new Crystal Reports v2008?

From the description, it seems as though you are experiencing a Crystal Report issue unrelated to our font or encoders.

Given changes have not occurred in the report since the upgrade; the issue seems that the Crystal runtime is misinterpreting the input, which we suggest you contact SAP to resolve.
