2016 Update:
A new product (Native Barcode Generator for Excel) has been released since this post was resolved that offers an easier method of generating barcodes in Excel.

Solution:

The Barcode Add-In for Excel in Excel 2013 cannot access the encoding routines to format the data to encode and generate a scannable barcode. To resolve the issue, the user must install the barcode fonts, install the Barcode Add-In for Excel, and import the VBA functions.

The steps explain how to download and import the VBA file.

1. Download the VBA Functions (save or run):

2. Extract the IDAutomation_OfficeVBA file.

3. Navigate to the IDAutomationVBA.bas file. The file includes functions designed to format data for the barcode font.

4. Open Excel and access the Developer tab. If the Developer tab is not available, import it using MS Office instructions.

5. Select Visual Basic.

Import the IDAutomationVBA.bas file

6. To import the VBA, choose File--Import File and choose the IDAutomationVBA.bas file.

7. Select File and choose Close and Return to Microsoft Excel.

Once the VBA file is imported, the Barcode Add-In for Excel will function as normal.
