When Importing A CSV File, I See My Data in Scientific Notation (3.9375E+19)

When Importing A CSV File Into the Barcode Label Software or Excel, I See My Data in Scientific Notation.

For instance, when I import a Comma Separated Values (.CSV) text file into the Barcode Label Software as Linked External Data, I get the field that should show as 39374974390860221169 showing as 3.9375E+19.

It is affecting my data and I cannot generate valid barcodes. Can you help?

Operating System: Windows and Mac

Application: Barcode Label Software, Excel

2016 Update: A new product (Native Barcode Generator for Excel) has been released since this question was resolved that offers an easier method of generating barcodes in Excel.

The data is not actually changed, just being interpreted as a number in scientific notation, which is why 39374974390860221169 shows as 3.9375E+19 (3.9375 x 1019).

There is a known issue that causes data to be interpreted as a number, even though you will see the entry in the CSV file as "39374974390860221169" with quotes. There is a workaround that allows for an import of a CSV into Excel. Review this 3rd-party YouTube video that shows the import process.

What you do next is dependent on which program you are using:

Barcode Label Software:
Save the data as an Excel (.xls or .xlsx) file and import/link the Excel file into the Barcode Label Software.

Excel using a barcode font with the Barcode Add-In:
* Use the Excel Add-In
* According to the necessary file format. If CSV, choose Save As and the 'Save as type' as CSV (Windows or Mac, depending on your operating system). If Excel (.xls or .xlsx), save as the desired format.
* Import (per directions of each individual program) then apply the font to the encoded data.
