Barcode Font Sizes – PDF vs Printed


We are using Crystal Reports and we followed the tutorial for font encoding. Our report uses the Code 128 Fonts at 6 points. The field to be barcoded is using the following formula:

idautomationcode128 (cstr({mtr_dna_ext_4;1.sample_number}, 0,'' ), true)

The report printed out either to a label printer or a laser jet printer is not readable by the barcode reader.

The report is exported out to a PDF and then printed to either a label printer or a laser jet printer IS readable by the barcode reader.

We would like to print directly to a printer without exporting to PDF.

What suggestions do you have?

Thank you for the detailed description. This seems to be a case of adjusting the font size for the resolution of the respective printer (by trial and error). We have general guidelines you may follow.

We reviewed the link and have tried several different combinations of barcode sizes with font sizes in Crystal. We have used the guide to determine the best font and size combinations – thank you!
