Resolved Questions

How can I get the decoded ASCII string, such as a RS, to appear when I scan a 2D barcode into microsoft's notepad.

Hi,

Right now to check the decoded ASCII string from a 2D PDF barcode we
have been using the id automation program. This works fine for us when we
are in the office and on our own computers, but when we have to go on
the manufacturing floor is a hassle because none of the production
computers have this program downloaded on them.

My question is is there any way that you can open up Notepad which is on every
Windows computer and scan the barcode and get the output of the scan to
come up as the decoded ASCII string.

For example currently, when I scan in Notepad I get:

[)>06S025964709PBB53 17F954 AC5YZ9Q42VH949CD102212L20LBAIL
MENT1LXF

But I want it to show this when I scan:

[)><RS>06<GS>S025964709<GS>PBB53 17F954 AC5YZ9<GS>Q42<GS>VH949C<GS>D102212<GS>L<GS>20LBAILMENT
<GS>1LXF<RS><EOT><CR>

Any help would be great. Also if it is something that we can do with the code
or if it is a simple solution with the settings on a scanner. If it is something we need to change in our code I will look more into it.

Operating System: Windows 7

Many ASCII function characters such as <RS> and <GS> cannot be viewed with Notepad. To view these, you need to use the Barcode Scanner ASCII String Decoder or the Barcode Decoder App.
