Error Linking External Data to Barcode Label Software

We have recently had the need to link external data when using the IDAutomation Barcode Label Software. Since we have bought multiple licenses, we have various copies running on different versions of Windows.

These are all the error messages we get when trying to link Access databases (.mdb or .accdb) or Excel (.xls or .xlsx):

* The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.

* A required component for IDAutomation® Barcode Label Software Pro was not found on this system. IDAutomation® Barcode Label Software Pro requires the 2007 (or newer) Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components. Please contact your system administrator.

* Unfortunately, a problem has occurred while trying to link to the external data source. The cause for this error is as of yet unknown; however, creating a new user account and using it has been reported to circumvent the problem.

* ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver] External table is not in the expected format.

Operating System: Windows

Application: IDAutomation Barcode Label Software, Access, Excel

The above errors stem from not having the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components installed. This is even applicable to systems using versions of Office greater than 2007.

Please follow this exact procedure to correct the issue:

1. Close all Microsoft Office programs.

2. Download and install the appropriate Microsoft Access Database Engine Redistributable:

Office 2007 and others (Try this first)
https://www.idautomation.com/downloads/AccessDatabaseEngine2007.zip
Office 2010:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255
Office 2013:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39358
Office 2016:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=54920

3. Completely reboot the machine(s) in question.

4. Open (and close) an Office file of each type (.mdb, .accdb, .xls, or .xlsx) in their respective programs, individually. At this point, some additional installation actions might be observed- do not interrupt them.
5. Once all of step 4 is complete, reboot the machine.
6. Once restarted, repeat the Linking to External Data Sources & Databases procedure described in the Barcode Label Software Manual & Tutorial.
