I am using the barcode 128 with Oracle reports 6i


For some numbers, I am receiving rectangles instead of bars in the bar fields. Please see the example below. What is causing this and what is the solution to this problem?

For example, number 17112-0003146 is returning as a rectangle.

This is actually a character set issue. The Code128 function returns a string containing special characters and sometimes certain characters do not display correctly with some character sets.

The workaround would be to use the Universal Font Package instead. The Code128 method from the IDAutomation_Universal.pll will return a string of only letters. When the universal font is applied, a code 128 barcode will result. And because the data is only alpha characters, the barcode will display correctly with all character sets.
