Auto-Triggering of Google-Sheets Trigger


Problem with Auto-Triggering of Google-Sheets Trigger "onChange of Sheet"
We are using the Google Sheets Barcode Generator. I use the function "=IDAutomationGoogleDocsBarcodeC128(DataToEncode)" to create barcodes on "Sheet 2" and "Sheet 3" within a Google spreadsheet. The "Data to Encode" value references a cell, and updates whenever a new record adds to "Sheet 1".

I have a trigger on the spreadsheet that triggers "on change." Before I add the IDAutomationGoogleDocsBarcodeC128(DataToEncode)-Function, the trigger fires when a new record is added to "Sheet 1".

After inserting the IDAutomationGoogleDocsBarcodeC128(DataToEncode) Function with a reference to a calculated cell, the trigger fires every 30-60 minutes, without an actual change being made to the sheets. When I remove the reference to a cell value in the function and replace it with a static value, the trigger does not fire randomly and the trigger works fine. Can you help me with a solution for the auto-triggering or point me in the direction to avoid this behavior?

As of the time of this response, custom functions in Google Sheets automatically trigger when a sheet refreshes. This post describes a similar issue.

A commenter posted a workaround.
