June-2017 Update: Java Linear and Linear + 2D Barcode Packages

New 2017 Java Updates to both the Linear and Linear + 2D packages have been released.

Updates to the Linear symbologies include:

• New image file options with the addition of SVG and EPS.
• Update requires JDK 1.4 and above now. Updated image encoder from com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.JPEGImageEncoder to use ImageIO.write for JDK7 images.
• Added advanced support for GS1, ISBT and HIBC tilde options.
• Updated the QR-Code JavaDoc documentation and the QR Code Servlet documentation.
• Added FNC3 and FNC4 support.

To encode FNC4 for Code 128 A, use É or ASCII 201
To encode FNC4 for Code 128 B, use È or ASCII 200
To encode FNC3 for Code 128 A and B, use Ä or ASCII 196

FNC4 can encode the entire LATIN (ISO-8859-1) characters in a Code 128 barcode. When an FNC4 is in a string the very next character will have 128 added to it to produce the LATIN character.

Example:
Encoding the ! symbol after the FNC4 should produce the ¢ character in a scan based on the ASCII Chart.

Data To Encode: È!
The Decimal of the ! character is 33 in the ASCII chart. When 128 is added to 33, it equals 161 which is the ¢ character.

• Updated the Linear JavaDoc documentation.

QR-Code Updates include the following:

• Added GS1 compatibility with the ability to encode the FNC1 character in the first or second position.
• Enabled SVG and EPS files to be generated, in addition to JPEG and GIF.
• Modified the barcode generation algorithms to be more efficient.
• Added additional GS1, HIBC, and ISBT ApplyTilde functionality.
