The difference between 2D Font and Encoder Advantage Packages vs. 2D Font and Encoder for Windows is the types of encoders (graphic and font) that are included in the package.

First, I will break down the difference between font encoders and graphic encoders.

Font Encoders are tools that are used with barcode fonts. Data is passed to the encoder and the output is encoded text. For example, if I passed the data "IDAUTOMATION DataMatrix Font and Encoder" the encoder would output a string of letters similar to the image below. When you apply the barcode font to the encoded data, you will receive a scannable barcode.

A graphic encoder takes your data and generates a barcode image (it does not require a font).

The Advantage package includes more encoders for development purposes (when a Developer License or above is purchased). The Encoders that are included with the Developer License and above include the .NET Forms Control and Java Class.

If you need the Development tools (.NET dll, Java class, etc), then the Advantage Package (Developer License and above) is the appropriate product.

If you just need to generate barcodes in Excel, Access, or Crystal Reports or need to use ActiveX Controls, then the Windows Package is the appropriate product.
