Scanner will not input data to laptop

My barcode scanner will not scan data into my computer. I used it the other day and it was fine, but now, no matter what, if it's something I printed or something on the back of a book or on a box, it will not input data. When I looked for help, this is all I got:

Scanning data directly into a field is the easiest of all implementations. The cursor is placed in the appropriate field that is to receive the data from the scan and the trigger is pressed on the scanner. After the trigger is pressed, the data appears at the cursor as if it had been typed from the keyboard. This method may also be automated to include functions such as tabs and returns - even in web browsers and custom applications.

Is it just broken? It makes a beep like it registers that it's a barcode but nothing happens.

Operating System: Max OSX

Application: any application or internet browset

First, try plugging your scanner into a different USB port of your laptop and then completely power down the laptop and power it back on. Also, push the bottom of the cable into the scanner body to make sure it is seated properly. if that does not work, try a process of elimination by plugging the scanner into another computer. If the scanner still fails to input data then you know the scanner is defective.
