Function 1 Symbol Character or FNC1 with GS1 DataMatrix barcode

I need to create GS1-DataMatrix barcodes with the Pro version of the software.

I have entered "(01)00380740082185(10)07485"

It reads when I test it with my scanner. The client I am creating these for just asked if I entered the FNC1 and I have no idea what that means.

Is the software creating it for me?

To generate GS1-Data Matrix using the Barcode Label Software:

In the barcode properties for Data Matrix, select the Data Matrix tab and check to ensure ApplyTilde is checked (it should be checked by default).

Enter your data (as a standard value, imported from an external source, etc), and make sure to surround your FNC1 and AIs with parentheses.

When generating GS1 symbols, IDAutomation recommends testing the result with the Barcode Decoder App which parses out GS1 data to verify proper encoding.

Sorry, yes. If ApplyTilde is checked for Data Matrix, then all you will need to do to identify the FNC1 and AI characters is surround the data with parentheses.

Now, you've confused me more.

In value, I entered: (01)00380740082185(10)07485

under the datamatrix tab Encoding defaulted to: Base256, The apply Tilde box is checked, and the preferred format defaulted to Auto.

Is this right?

Also, for DataMatrix, ProcessTilde must be enabled. For example, reference

It would be the same process for Data Matrix, except that there would be no need to set the character set to Auto.

But I am doing DataMatrix, not 128.

You mention 128 in your answers and the video is for 128 also, not DataMatrix

Yeah, it can be a bit confusing. You may want to just follow this tutorial at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfXghJRDkc8

You must supply all of the data, and the component/application will format your data.

The FNC1 is created when you surround the FNC1, in your example, 01, with parentheses. Then you must make sure Code 128 Auto is selected AND that ApplyTilde is checked.

So then it's automatic then?

Sorry, but they gave me a really long PDF to read from the www.gs1.org site and it's confusing me.

How do I know what encoding to select, and do I have to enter anything under the prefix and suffix sections?

FNC1 is the single character Function Code 1, which specifies that a Code 128 barcode is a GS1-128 code (or Data Matrix barcode).

The FNC1 in your example: (01)00380740082185(10)07485 is (01).

The FNC1 is generated in the Label Software when the ApplyTilde property is checked/enabled. To learn more about ApplyTilde in the Label Software, please visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIEMqH2D7WU
