Adjust the size of datamatrix (2D) barcode to fit 1.5X0.5in size label with SSRS

2019 Update: IDAutomation now offers the (SSRS Native Barcode Generator) which stays embedded in the report and runs locally without any CRI, DLLs, references or config files.

We just purchased the IDAutomation Reporting Services 2D Barcode CRI product for developing the attached labels in SQL Server Reporting Service 2005. We have a problem using the IDAutomation software to print the labels with 2D barcodes.
The label size is 1.5in*0.5in, and we need to print a text line under the 2D barcode box. So, we need to adjust the size of the 2D barcode box (Custom Item Box) to be smaller than 0.4inch*0.4inch. However, it looks like the smallest size of the 2D barcode is 0.5*0.5 in so I could not make it smaller. The barcode itself is smaller enough, but the Barcode box is too big. Is there a way I can adjust the size of the box to be the same as the barcode? As well, it looks the “XDimensionMILs” property does not work well.
I’ve also tried to use the “CaptionBelow“ property for the text printing. As the font has to be size “4”, the captions with barcode did print clearly.
Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you for your help. image

Because XDImensionMILS is such a small unit of measurement, it will only affect the barcode at certain values. Therefore, XDimensionMILS at 8 and at 10 will produce barcodes that match in size. This is the reason why you may not see a change when the XDimension is increased from 8 to say, 17. This is not a feature of IDAutomation but a barcode standard for the symbology; all barcode products will have some kind of XDimension feature that works just like ours.

Consider modifying the encoding mode as this may generate a smaller barcode and change the overall size of the canvas.

Hi Ben, thank you for your answer. As you can see from the attached picture, even I set the XDimension to 8 MILS. I tested from 1MILS to 16MILS are all the same. I could not get the size of the DataMatrixBarcode1 box to be less than 0.5x0.5in. I also tried using mouse drag to reduce the size of the box, but if I save the report and re-open it or publish the report, the box will changed to the original size. can you please test it with SSRS2005? Thanks. If it does not work, we have to look for other applications.

Properties that control size include XDimensionMILS/CM and Preferred Format. The minimum XDimension for Data Matrix is .05 CM or 20 MILS. It is possible that the canvas is set to its smallest size for the created barcode.
