How to encode Directional Arrow keypress in Code 39 or 128

Hello,

I want to know how to encode Directional Arrows (Up/Down/Left/Right) Arrows in either Code 128 or Code 39 Extended.

I am trying to create a barcode that processes an order using our accounting software and the steps required are:

- 2 Carriage Returns
- 3 Tabs
- 1 Down Arrow
- 1 Carriage Return

I believe the answer to this question resides in the answer to "How to encode HEX Code into barcodes" which I don't know how to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have been searching for 3 days now and I cannot see a working way to do this. I have seen that there is an Alternate Extended ASCII table but I am unable to encode them successfully.

Thank you

Jesse

Operating System: Windows 10

Application: Excel or MS Word with the Code 3 of 9 and Code 128 Fonts installed.

Encoding functions such as returns and tabs are possible with Code 128 and Code 39. However, you can only encode ASCII Functions. Normally, these characters are not visible unless an application is used such as IDAutomation’s Barcode Scanner ASCII String Decoder, which displays these hidden functions as tags. Direction arrows cannot be encoded because they are not ASCII functions.

It may be possible to encode other keyboard functions with some scanners. In this case, you will have to do the implementation the scanner manufacturer recommends since it is not part of what can normally be encoded in a barcode.

To encode Hex into a barcode, refer to the ASCII chart and convert from hex to decimal. Use the decimal number with the appropriate tilde command, for example, ~013 encodes a return and ~009 encodes a tab.

Thanks, I guess that makes sense.

One more question if you wouldn't mind, how does one go about encoding a HEX code into a barcode in hopes of it translating into a character?

EXAMPLE
Before you sent the link: https://www.barcodefaq.com/ascii-chart-char-set/
Let's take the example of the "DELETE" Function. It has Hex Code "0x7f".

How would one encode "0x7f" into a barcode, such that when it was scanned it would translate into a "DELETE" function?

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Thanks for the reply, Brant.

How can Direction arrows not be encoded when they are included in the Scanners User Guide (Honeywell 1300G) - I attached pictures above.

It says they are extended ASCII functions.
