If I scan a barcode is there anything that can interrupt/cause the dropping of characters?


If I scan a barcode is there anything that can interrupt/cause the dropping of characters? I have used redundancy and the data matrix barcode - should be no way without the scanner screaming error.

Note - the barcode scanner/computer/and barcode work more than a hundred times in a row without failing - then drop a character.

If there is significant damage to the barcode, one could assume that it could drop characters even with error correction. Another issue could be the scanner not being able to read the amount of data provided OR not being set up to read the amount of data.
