The RS character does not display in the Free Barcode Scanner ASCII String Decoder

If I type a <CNTRL-]> into the Barcode Scanner ASCII String Decoder it displays <GS> as expected. If I type an <CNTRL-6> it does not display <RS>. How can I get the Free Barcode Scanner ASCII String Decoder to display the <RS> character?

Operating System: Window XP

It depends on your options for ASCII MODE in your scanner. For example, the Honeywell 4600g has two modes. One mode does not display the RS and the other mode does. I do not know much about the DS6707 settings to tell you if it has both options for the scanner. The SC7USB 2D scanner has an ASCII Mode that allows the RS to be recognized. This is all dependent on the scanner and not the actual String Decoder.

You are welcome. Check with Symbol to find out if they have an additional ASCII Mode option. I have not seen their manual so I am not sure what options they provide.

Thanks for the help. I must have something set up wrong in the Symbol Tech scanner.

If there was something wrong with the software, it would not work at all.

The barcode I created and scanned displays the output--it includes a GS and an RS.

Try this with the Free Barcode Scanner ASCII String Decoder software. Disconnect the scanner from the computer. Open the Free Barcode Scanner ASCII String Decoder software. Type <CNTRL-]> into the upper field. It will display <GS>. Type <CNTRL-6> into the upper field. It will not display <RS>. This would not seem to have anything to do with the scanner, but the software.
Thanks for the help.

I am using the Symbol Tech DS6707. I thought that there may be a problem with it so I tried typing the <CNTRL-6> character directly into the Free Barcode Scanner ASCII String Decoder software and nothing appeared. This makes me think that the Free Barcode Scanner ASCII String Decoder does not recognize the <RS> character. If I type a <CNTRL-]> into the software, the <GS> character is displayed, so I know that it can recognize certain control characters, just apparently not the <RS> character.
Thanks

What scanner are you using? You will have to enable the ASCII Mode on your scanner. If you are using the SC7USB Scanner, please use this barcode.
