SC7-USB: Virtual USB COM and USB HID

I recently purchased the IDAutomation SC7-USB 2D Barcode Scanner.

When plugged in, Windows detected it and installed the driver. I have been trying out the USB Virtual COM setting in the Interface Selection of the manual.

When I scan a Data Matrix barcode, nothing happens. The SC7-USB sounds a high pitch ‘beep-beep.’

With the USB HID setting, everything works and I can read barcodes.

Can you tell me what is going on?

Operating System: Windows 64-bit

USB HID is the default (supported) input mode for the IDAutomation SC7-USB Scanner. Additional drivers are not required for this input mode, as they are maintained by the operating system. USB HID should be used unless there is a specific reason for switching to a different mode.

USB Virtual COM is an input mode that emulates a virtual COM port for programs that have the ability to read the input directly from an assigned COM port. While USB Virtual COM is not directly supported by IDAutomation, there is additional documentation in the SC7-USB-2D USB Virtual Com Driver for 64 Bit Windows post.
