How to identify DataMatrix encoding?

Hi there,

I have several DataMatrix barcodes generated by an external application. However, only a few of those DataMatrix can be read by our 3rd party application. I hoped that, due to the great tutorial on this website, I might get some help from you guys.

I try to figure out, why one DataMatrix can be read by the 3rd party application, but not the other. Both barcodes are supposedly generated by the same external applications and should use the same settings.

Many apps (Windows or Android) I have tested will either not give back any data, "no barcode found" or simply show the payload (if read successfully). Also, the (by our 3rd party app) non-readable DataMatrix 2 might produce a correct text output by some apps, but I do not understand why.

Questions:
Besides the payload, what is the difference between DataMatrix 1 and DataMatrix 2? Is the encoding different? The DataMatrix type? Anything that might point to the external application using a different configuration between the two resulting barcodes?

DataMatrix 1: can be read and seems correct

DataMatrix 2: cannot be read

Does anyone have an idea?
Any hint is very much appreciated.

Thanks
Dan
