I need to read the back of driver's licenses


I have a store and would like to read the barcode information located on the driver's license and save it in our database. What do I need?

Different states have different methods of encoding data on the driver's license, some have the data located in a magnetic stripe and some have the data encoded in a PDF417 barcode. If you visit http://www.aamva.org/ID-Security-Technologies/ and click on the “US License Technology” tab, you will see what states use what type of technology.

To read the magnetic stripe data, we would suggest the IDTech USB Magnetic Stripe Reader (WCR3237-533U). To contact IDTech for additional information, Customer Service: 800-984-1010 or Tech Support: 714-761-6368

To read the PDF417 2D Barcode data, we would suggest the Motorola DS4800 2D Barcode Imager (DS4801-DL4U0000SGW) or the Motorola DS6878-DL Driver's License Cordless 2D Imager (DS6878-DL20007W). To contact Motorola for additional information, Customer Service & Tech Support: 800-653-5350
