FontEncode in demo data matric OCX returns empty string

Trying the demo Data Matrix OCR in an actual application to test its viability. The call to FontEncode with the following parameters: ole_1.object.FontEncode(ls_datatoencode, 0, 3, 0, ls_encodedstring) returns emptry string in ls_encodedstring.

Using PowerBuilder but very similar to VB and we use various OCX's in our application without issue. Question is whether the demo version is brain-damaged in that it won't work outside of the actual demo application supplied?

Operating System: Win 7 64

Application: PowerBuilder 11.2

I apologize for the inconvenience, there is an issue with the encoder. We will be making updates to the control later this year.

Bummer. But here's the big question - is it the demo control that has problems or the commercial, purchased one? We need to be able to produce DM barcodes from our application very soon, and I was hoping to test it first. And we have to have a DLL or OCX that returns an encoded string for use with fonts. We cannot use an image or file as the output due to our development platform.
