We are trying to barcode an underscore in a Code 39 Barcode

Hello there,

We have most of your 39 barcode fonts ADV, IDAutomation, Etc. Some of our Part Numbers have an "_" Underscore character but when we scan it, it shows as a "-" dash if we use the %O character in place of the underscore it either shows the dash or just %O, can you please help. BTW - We are printing with MS Word.

Thank you,
Michael

The underscore is not part of the original Code 39 character set. Code 39 Character Set: https://www.idautomation.com/barcode-faq/code-39/

There are a couple of ways to generate the underscore for Code 39:

(1) Install the IDAutomation Extended Code 39 Fonts ( https://www.idautomation.com/barcode-fonts/code-39/extended39.html ), type out the data as is by using the underscore. For example: *123_456*

You must also set your scanner to FULL ASCII/Extended Code 39. For the SC7USB 2D Scanner, please us:
https://www.idautomation.com/scanners/scanner-programming-barcodes/SC7USB2D-Code39FullASCII.pdf

(2) Type out the data using the %O as the underscore and then set the scanner to FULL ASCII/Extended 39 using the PDF in option one.
