Barcode format changed, will not scan now

I am a long-time user of your Code 39 font. I also purchased 2005 2006 about 20 of your W3USB wands. While creating a report in MS Access and choosing the barcode font, the format of the barcode changed right in front of my eyes! What I mean is normally the barcode is usually a simple barcode, with no numbers underneath. I've been using this font for years and this is how it always looked like.

One day, while using choosing the barcode font, all of a sudden it changed from the one without the numbers to one with the numbers underneath. When I printed and tried to scan the barcodes, I cannot scan them. Nothing happens. I actually like the numbers underneath and don't mind them staying. I tried using the font in Excel and the barcode still has the numbers underneath and I still can't scan them. What happened, and why can't I scan them? I am using a Windows 7 PC.

Macro,
Double-check and verify that the Code 39 Font is actually installed and working by double-clicking on it in Control Panel - Fonts.

If it is installed and working correctly, check to make sure the Code 39 Font is selected where you need the barcode to be displayed.

If all the above is already correct, check to make sure the start and stop digits are being appended to the data encoded; in Excel, this is usually performed with a formula. For example:
Enter the formula =("*"&A1&"*") in cell B1 where the data is in column A and the barcode font is selected for column B.
