Large Data Matrix Symbol is Difficult to Scan


A large Data Matrix Symbol generated with the Data Matrix 2D Font or another product such as the Data Matrix Generator for Crystal Reports is difficult to scan when either printed or from the screen.

If a Data Matrix symbol is difficult to scan generated from the Auto encoding mode, IDAutomation recommends switching the encoding mode to Base256 (for Unicode or UTF-8) or ASCII. It was determined that some scanners and camera-based decoders cannot quickly scan a Data Matrix symbol generated with the auto encoding mode. This is most likely because the auto-encoding mode includes a lot of internal switches between character sets to try to make the symbol smaller.
