How to use IDAutomation Plug-In with FileMaker Server?

Is it possible to use your IDAutomation Font Encoder Plug-In with Barcode Fonts or IDAutomation Native Generator for FileMaker in FileMaker Server version? When the plug-In is placed in the Extensions directory, it is not visible in FileMaker Server.

Operating System: Windows, Mac

Application: FileMaker Pro Server Edition

Note: Since this question was resolved, IDAutomation has updated the FileMaker Native Barcode Generator products. The latest version offers easier and web-compatible methods (HTML and SVG) for generating barcodes in FileMaker.

IDAutomation presents a solution documented by FileMaker Support. Because IDAutomation does not have the resources to run FileMaker Server, we cannot guarantee the solution will resolve the issue. However, it is possible to test by downloading our demo products.

This solution is taken directly from the FileMaker 12 Server Help PDF

On Page 72, FileMaker provides information to adjust Server plug-In Settings.

Server plug-in settings
Note: The following information is for server administrators.
The Database Server>Server Plug-Ins tab allows you to enable FileMaker Server to use external
function plug-ins with hosted FileMaker Pro databases that are designed to use server-side plug-ins.

The FileMaker Server component that runs plug-ins is called the FileMaker Script Engine

To enable the FileMaker Server plug-ins settings:
1. Select Enable FileMaker Script Engine (FMSE) to use plug-ins to allow FileMaker Server to use plug-ins.

2. Select Allow Install Plug-In File script step to update Server plug-ins if you want the Install Plug-In File script step to update the plug-in files located in the Server extensions folder.

3. The list shows the plug-ins that are in the plug-in folder. Select Enabled for each plug-in that you want to execute in the FileMaker Script Engine.

4. Click Save.

ADD THE PLUG-IN

Place the IDAutomation FileMaker Plug-In in the Extensions folder.

Windows: [drive]:Program FilesFileMakerFileMaker ServerDatabase ServerExtensions

Mac OS: /Library/FileMaker Server/Database Server/Extensions/

STOP AND RESTART THE DATABASE SERVER

It may be necessary to stop and restart the Database Server.

Verify that the plug-in is visible in FileMaker.

If it is not visible you are using FileMaker 8.5 and above, consider using the Dynamic Generator Service to stream barcodes into FileMaker.

Note:

When implementing the Native Barcode Generator for FileMaker on FileMaker Server, it is necessary to set the Calculation Storage Options to Do Not Store Calculation Results, then recalculate the report.
