Create Code 39 Barcodes in FileMaker using Custom Formulas


Need to create barcodes in FileMaker using Fonts and the IDAutomation formula in FileMaker Pro

1. Download and install the Code 39 Font Package (Demo or Licensed version). To install the fonts, run the EXE file located in the Code 39 Font Package.

2. Download and extract the IDAutomation File Maker Functions.

3. Open the FileMaker database.

4. Select File - Manage - Custom Functions.
NOTE: If Custom Functions is not an option, enable it using this tutorial and then return and continue with step 4.

5. Choose Import and select the IDAutomation_FileMakerFontEncoderFunctions file.

6. Select ALL of the functions by pressing Ctrl-A and the space bar. All barcode type functions must be imported in order to work.

7. Choose File - Manage - Database to create a calculated field that will contain the barcode.

8. Name the field and select Create.

9. Scroll down the list of functions and double-click on the Code 39 function. It will appear in the formula box.

10 Replace DataToEncode with the desired field to encode. In this example, it is Employee Number.

11. Set the Calculation result to Text.

12. Select View - Layout Mode and select Insert - Field to place the barcode on the form or report.

13. Right-click on the field and choose Fill Color then change it to white so that it may be easily scanned.

14. Select Format - Font and choose the IDAutomationHC39 or IDAutomationC39 barcode font for the field.

15. Since barcodes require a quiet zone (spacing at both ends of the barcode), select the field and choose Format - Align Text - Center.

16. Select View - Browse Mode to view the barcode.
