Code 128 Auto and Subset Encoding

We need to generate a GS1-128 barcode that starts in subset C, then switches (and ends) in subset A.

Example: (01)12345(91)65ABC

This is really confusing- what general encoder function do we use?

Operating System: Windows, Mac OS X, LINUX, UNIX

1. In general, GS1-128 compliant* barcodes are generated in IDAutomation Code-128 products when the following is true (using a font encoder which is feature-level 5 and above):

· The Code-128 encoding mode is set to Auto, which is the default in most cases (this is the function that has 'Code128' in the name, without 'a', 'b', or 'c' at the end of the name).

· The Parentheses or Tilde methods are used to distinguish the AIs (Application Identifiers) in the DataToEncode property.

· The ApplyTilde or ProcessTilde option is enabled.

Note: Multiple element strings may also be encoded according to GS1 specifications. Variable element strings should be encoded last in the symbol and FNC1 characters must be encoded between two or more variable-length element strings.

*For more information, please refer to Creating GS1-128 Compliant Barcodes.

2. Using the example given (referencing the Code 128 Barcode Font Character Set), one can see that the Code 128 Auto Function encodes:

ÍÊ!,BÈ5ÇÊ{aÈABC;Î

Which properly scans (when a barcode font from the IDAutomation Code 128 Font Package is applied to it) and decodes to:

]C10112345<GS>9165ABC

Where ]C1 is the correct code for the FNC1 and the <GS> is the correct function code (FNC) for the next AI (Application Identifier).
