Encoding ITF ( Interleaved 2 of 5)


We have been using Windows Barcode Font Encoder DLL for barcode fonts for most of the fonts and there are no issues. Currently, we are trying the Interleaved 2 of 5 Fonts (with bearer bars) but found the encoding result is not correct when compared with the MS Office Encoder. Can you advise if there is anything specific that needs to be done to make this work?

SCC-14/ITF-14 comprises of 13 data digits with a calculated Mod10 digit (based on the proceeding 13 digits). See GS1 for more specifics on the Logistic Variant/Packaging indicator.

To create an SCC-14 barcode with ITF Fonts, implement a Font Encoder in the desired application and use the i2of5 or ITF function. All IDAutomation ITF Fonts include bearer bars to meet GS1 requirements.

The following would generate the SCC-14 barcode symbol:
• Data: 000234567891
• Turn on/enable the Mod10 Check Digit option

MOD10 check digits may be verified with the free Barcode Data Decoder App, which scans the barcode and highlights the check digit in green when the calculation is correct.

How do I create a SCC-14 Interleaved 2 of 5 Bar Code?

Only the standard Interleaved 2 of 5 Font Package includes fonts that will generate human-readable and bearer bars.

To generate Bearer Bars and Human Readable, use any font that begins with:
IDAutomationBHI25

The Barcode that we are trying to generate is the Bearer Bar Interleaved 2 of 5. If it is the Standard Interleaved 2 of 5 there is no issue.

Another question is there an Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode as per the attached picture? image

The encoded text given was indicative of Universal ITF (Interleaved 2 of 5) encoding. After applying it to the Universal Barcode Font, a correct barcode was formed:

Which scans as 0000001567474230475162, where the last 2 is the correct mod10 check digit encoded in the barcode.

Conclusion:
A barcode is a binary representation of the data it contains. The evaluation of a barcode is not in the way it looks to the human eye, but instead in the way it scans. In this case, there is nothing wrong with the barcode, as long as the correct IDAutomation barcode font is applied to the encoded text.
