Two digit Barcodes and Sharp XE A507 cash register

I am looking at buying a Sharp XE A507 which will have very few UPC codes (only about 50 at the most). The register and UPC codes are for an once a small year garden sale where multiple items are sold for the same price (like a dollar store).

Will the XE A507 recognize UPC codes that are only 2 digits long such as A3, A5, B3, B5, etc? I want to keep it as simple as possible. I will only need about 20 to 30 of these pairings of a letter and a single number.

For example, A3 would coordinate with person "Seller" A and his/her multiple items that all sell for $3. Likewise for B3, C3, C4, D3, etc., then do a department report to pay out the sellers.

I've seen on the net where I can make and print my own bar codes that say "A3" etc, but will the cash register be able to read bar codes this short?

Thanks in advance,

Ed.

We would recommend using Interleaved 2 of 5 (AKA ITF and I2of5) since it does not have the minimum digit requirement. If you would like a more permanent solution, the Interleaved 2 of 5 Barcode Fonts Package is recommended.

So given the help from the earlier post, "It supports UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, and ITF-14 (which are barcode types that only will hold numbers)." and if I choose to use a free UPC generator off the Net and limit my bar code to 4 numbers, what would I use? (UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, OR ITF-14)?

Thanks

The way the machine processes the barcodes is more of a function of the machine itself, not the barcodes themselves.

James,

Thanks for your extra effort and quick response. So letters won't work, it has to be numbers.

Plan B: If I make a UPC code for example 0103 where "01" is seller identification* and "03" is $3....and scan it with the bar code scanner, the cash register won't recognize it at that point, and from then would that be my opportunity to enter that UPC manually?

(*some customers like to buy from certain sellers, so I could say "John" is seller "01" to the customer. Look for those UPCs beginning with "01")

I know I can do stuff on a computer and transfer it via SIM card, but for my needs, a once-a-year event with minimal UPC codes, I think just plunking it into the till will suffice, if that is an option.

I took the liberty of finding the manual* for this product. It supports UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, and ITF-14 (which are barcode types that only will hold numbers). Our UPC/EAN Barcode Font Package can produce barcodes that are as small as one digit. You could devise a system based on two numbers, instead of a letter and number.
