Resolved Questions

ASP.NET Linear Server Control Code 39 barcode has extra character at end of text.

We are using the IDAutomation.LinearServerControl version 4.10.1761. When we use the control to create a Code39 barcode with human-readable code beneath,
the human-readable code shows exactly what we fed the control, but when
scanned the barcode ends in an "X".

See the sample of the barcode attached. When scanned, the value is "7277046X".

Our relevant code looks like this:

LinearBarcode1.DataToEncode = "7277046";
LinearBarcode1.GetBitmapImageForBinaryStream().Save(Response.
OutputStream, System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Gif);

Any idea what may be wrong?

There are two properties in the Linear Server Control that deal with Check Digits for Code 39. The X that you are receiving in the scan is the check digit/check character due to the MOD43 Check Digit Calculation.

Check Character Enabled:

Check Character Disabled:

If you do not want to calculate the MOD43 check digit, you can disable it from the barcode and from the human readable.

Properties of the Linear Server Control for Code 39 that handle the check digit/check character:

CheckCharacter Default value: True
When True, automatically adds the check digit. The check digit is required for all symbologies except Code 39, Industrial 2 of 5, and Codabar. When using symbologies that do not require the check digit, the check digit may be disabled.

CheckCharacterInText Default value: False
When True, automatically adds the check digit that is encoded in the barcode to the human-readable text that is displayed.

If you do not want the check digit to display, set CheckCharacter to False.
