QR Code encoding the special characters such as &, # or '

Sometimes a company name will have a special symbol such as &. For example, P&G. If the QR code has this, the string after the & will be chopped off.

Is there a way to encode this kind of symbol?

The way we are using is http://ourservername/IDAutomation/IDAutomationStreamingQRCode.aspx?I=1BMP&barcode=00123456^P&G^Yan^Ton" and the data after & will be chopped off when reading it.

Please advise.

Thanks

It seems Crystal is filtering out any form of the &. You might have to contact SAP and ask if there is a separate character or a way around this limitation of Crystal Reports.

Hi James:
I looked at the one from http://bcgen.com/demo/IDAutomationStreamingQRCode.aspx?I=1BMP&D=00123456^P%26G^Yan^Ton from the browser and the one I generated from my crystal report 11 by pasting this link to the crystal report 11. they are different. the one from the browser works but the one from crystal report does not work.

is there anything I can do to make it work in Crystal the same as the one in the browser? what I should set for the report? I thought they should work the same, but it seems like not.

Since the forum does not show the URL correctly, here is the hyperlink. That will show the exact URL call made.

Hi, this barcode works with our scanner. and it shows the correct data.

but the QR code generated using http://bcgen.com/demo/IDAutomationStreamingQRCode.aspx?I=1BMP&D=00123456^P%26G^Yan^Ton does not work. it only shows Demo 00123456^P

how did you generate the following QR code?

Using this barcode:

If you get anything else but (ignoring the DEMO<CR><LF>, since it's a demo product):

00123456^P&G^Yan^Ton

Then it is your scanner (contact the manufacturer or refer to its manual) since the barcode is properly encoded.

Although the barcode is not proprietary to a specific scanner, we invite you to consider the SC7-USB which has many options and a feature called Print Quality Assessment, which gives graded information about 2D barcodes.

I tried to use parameter D and still get the same result 00123456^P

I also tried to use your demo site http://bcgen.com/demo/IDAutomationStreamingQRCode.aspx?I=1BMP&D=00123456^P%26G^Yan^Ton

and I got the same result 00123456^P

Please advise.

Thanks

The parameter for the DataToEncode is D=. When properly encoded (for the part after IDAutomationStreamingQRCode.aspx?):

I=1BMP&D=00123456^P%26G^Yan^Ton

It scans as:

00123456^P&G^Yan^Ton

it does not work when I replace & with %26. http://ourservername/IDAutomation/IDAutomationStreamingQRCode.aspx?I=1BMP&barcode=00123456^P%26G^Yan^Ton

the data scanned is 00123456^P

Please let me know what else I should change.

Thanks

Covered in the Barcode Streaming Product Does Not Encode Certain Characters post, the & symbol is reserved and can be represented with %26 in a URL call (this is shown to match the post):

The idea is the same with QR-Code URLs:
