Using the 2D java datamatrix package, is there a way to force the barcode image to be rectangular?


The data string in our barcode image is about 60 characters long. We have limited space to mount the label and would like to force the image to be rectangular. We are using the 2D datamatrix, Java barcode package to generate the images. Is there a way to force the image to be rectangular?

I believe it is not forming a rectangular matrix because the amount of data has hit its capacity. Although the max for alphanumeric for the select Preferred Format is 72, this is the best-case scenario with compression. Since IDAutomation does not use compression, the capacity may be hit before the best-case amount.

I set the preferred format to C16X48. When I try to encode the following string I get a square data matrix.

LBLAM2215$VER01.00$MFRABCDE$PNRV1234567890200$SERABC00000001$DMF021512

If I encode a shorter string I get a rectangular matrix. Am I out of luck getting a rectangular data matrix for this string?

Yes, it is possible to create a rectangular-shaped Data Matrix barcode. The Preferred Format property of the component must be modified.
