Bug in Universal C128 encode method

After an error report from a customer and some tests on our side it seems there is an unexpected error (java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException) in the method IDAutomation_Universal_C128 of the class com.idautomation.universalencoder.Universal

An example code is below. When running that code you will see that an error is raised :

public static void main(String[] args) {
String toEncode = "PCEAN372";
toEncode = "~212"+toEncode;

Universal universalEncoder = new Universal();

try {
String encoded = universalEncoder.IDAutomation_Universal_C128(toEncode, true);
System.out.println("To encode : "+toEncode+" / Encoded : "+encoded);
} catch(Exception ex) {
System.out.println("Failed to encode : "+toEncode);
ex.printStackTrace();
}
}

As of 1/2015, the issue has been corrected. We have an updated version of the Java Barcode Font Encoder Class available.

This issue will occur for certain characters using Code 128 Auto. It has been added to our Issues Report.

If you are using ~212 as a non-FNC encoder for the Application Identifier--PC does not appear to be one--then you can use Character Set B as a workaround.

IDAutomation_Universal_C128B

For other Java alternatives, consider the Java Barcode Component
