How to create UTF-8 characters in a Data Matrix barcode using the IDAutomation Data Matrix Font and Encoder with Java Class Encoder.

IDAutomation 2D products now encode UTF8 characters.

The tutorial assumes the user has downloaded and installed the fonts and set up the IDAutomation_JavaFontEncoder_DataMatrix.jar in the classpath. The steps will explain how to encode data and scan a barcode that contains UTF8 characters.

Example Data:

1. Run Eclipse.

2. Select File - New - Java Project.

3. Name the project and select Next.

4. Select Libraries - Add External JARs and open the JAR file to import. In the example, it is the IDAutomation_JavaFontEncoder_DataMatrix.jar. Select Finish.

5. Right-click the project, and select New - Class.

6. Name the class and select Finish.

7. Enter the Data Matrix Java code sample:

NOTE: Set DataToEncode to the UTF8 characters of your choice.


8. Save the project. Because the data include UTF8 characters, select the UTF-8 option.

9. Run the project and view the encoded data.

Changing the Console output to the barcode font.
Select Window - Preferences - General - Appearance - Colors and Font - Debug - Console Font - Set the font to IDAutomation2D XLS

10 Run the project again to display the barcode.

11. Scan the barcode using the Cognex Barcode Scanner app available on Android and iOS. NOTE: Scanner settings may need to be adjusted.
