Error popup with Excel Internal Data Import

Hello. I'm trying to link my Excel CSV file to the Barcode label software. When I click LINK DATA after selecting my source path file, a window comes up and says...

"Unable to read from external data source:
The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find
the object 'StoreproductsEXCEL9.26.16a.csv.' Make
sure the object exists and that you spell its name
and the path name correctly."

Barcode Label Software

I have tried the file as an Excel file and as well a CSV file. I get the window both ways. I did, during set up in Excel, while working on the file, moved it around to different locations. I have a stand-alone external hard drive on my laptop that I use but I have since saved copies of the file on the laptop directly to see if it would work, and it hasn't. I think this is what the error is referring to. Not sure what to do at this point. I am not very tech-savvy..so please basic simple language.

Remove the periods from the file name. Once I did this, the file was linked.
