Bar Code Font looks different between SSRS 2005 and SSRS 2008


I work for the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. We purchased the Bar Code Font pack in 2004 (I think) and have been using it with Crystal Reports and SSRS since then. We are working on an upgrade of our Medical Information System (Allscripts) and the bar codes now look different in SSRS 2008 R2 and now will not scan. They look fine in Visual Studio, but on the server look different. I'm wondering if there is a compatibility issue, or perhaps we need to upgrade to a Font Generator rather than using the 2D BarCode Font.

Note: A new product (SSRS Native Barcode Generator) has been released since this post was resolved that offers an easier method of generating barcodes in SSRS without fonts or other components.

For RS 2008 we recommend using the Reporting Services Barcode CRI. This will create the barcode as an image instead of a font, and it uses the .NET framework to create the image so no external fonts are needed. Please refer to this page for more information:
