Resolved Questions

MICR13B PCL font is not acceptable to our bank.

MICR Fonts

We bought the PCL font years ago. The problem we are having with our current bank is that there is too much white space between the special symbols and the numbers.

Seems that it's only the slim numbers (1,2,3,7)

we send the .pcl directly to the printer to load it as a secondary font
and our output (custom pcl) selects the font and prints the characters

So there is no printer driver - it's created in Linux - and sent directly to the printer.

Any suggestions?

From the looks of the ID Automation webpage for the micr13b it currently still has white space before those numbers, so it
doesn't look like purchasing the font a second time would help (let alone be fairly costly)

********* Update to question **********

1. are there also .pcl (already pcl ready) font files in the package for the alternative fonts? or just .ttf files?
as we are not using drivers, but just send the .pcl 13b file to the printer as the secondary font (as purchased
from IDautomation back a few years ago)?

2. we have been looking at checks now and seem to notice that most checks have a "0" preceding the check
number and that preceding zero is not printed on the check as its number. Ie. Check # 1234 is on the top
right corner of the check, but "01234" or "001234" MICR is encoded on the bottom. We tried adding a preceding
zero, and that seems to fix our issue - which now we need to clarify with our bank if that is acceptable. I'm
wondering if this is an industry-wide standard to have a prefixing zero on the check number to reduce the white
space between the start marker and the account number.

We recommend contacting the printer manufacturer for complete instructions for installing SFP fonts.

How do we load the .sfp file to the printer? Or how would we convert it to a .pcl coded font to download to the printer as a soft font?

I don't remember what we did when we purchased the font from you the first time. I thought it just came as a .pcl file

IDAutomation has the .sfp (PCL fonts) but we do not sell .pcl files for the MICR Font

We include digitally signed TrueType and OpenType fonts provided for security purposes. The package also includes PostScript and PCL (.sfp) fonts. I am not able to answer your second question. I recommend contacting the bank or reviewing your specification.

Thanks for your question. If you're getting too much white space between those special MICR characters, then please consider testing with some of the other fonts in the package. You'll find varying intensities ranging from extra light to extra bold, and those can reduce or increase white space as well. Please try moving to one of the bolder font choices as shown in our MICR Fonts Chart.

If you continue to have problems, then please update your forum inquiry and provide some details about your testing with those various fonts, as well as the font you're currently working with that is causing the issue and your DPI.
