Crystal Reports 429 COM Label Error From VB.NET


When Developing barcodes in VB.NET in conjunction with Crystal Reports, I receive a 429 retrieving the COM error:

Generation of Linear or 2D barcodes using VB.NET as the encoding option and then using Crystal Reports to load the encoded data with the application of a font to complete the barcode requires Developer licensing or higher. Once the VB.NET encoding installation is complete, the .EXE for the barcode type must be run on downstream computers to resolve this error.

Purchase the Barcode Font Package with a Developer license or higher.
Complete the VB.NET encoder installation to encode your data.
Run the .EXE on destination computers either manually or via the Silent Installers that are provided with the Developer license to install the fonts and DLLs necessary for this process.

Alternately, a more concise method to generate the barcodes would be to do all of the encoding in Crystal Reports using a Font Formula method listed here: Barcode Font Encoder Formulas for Crystal Reports. This method would remove the need for encoding in VB.NET and not require DLLs to be installed on downstream computers.
