Resolved Questions

Specific Code 128 X Dimension

We want to print a barcode from a C# Windows form application. The specification we have to follow defines the x-dimension to be .375 mm at least and the barcode height to be 25 mm.

The biggest problem is, when we sent our result for testing, the result was an x-dimension of .274 mm.

What should we change to get a .375 mm x-dimension?

Operating System: Windows

Application: Visual Studio, C#, Windows Form Project

Barcode size is a matter of:
• The data fed in.
• The printer resolution.*
• Various other factors (such as the respective symbology’s parameters).

Keep in mind:
• There is not an exact combination of the above (get a specific barcode size) that we can recommend as it is a matter of trial and error in your team's implementation to find the right combination that gets the desired result.
• Scanners have varying capabilities and readability minimums (refer to the scanner manual for specifics).

Because of the above, we cannot recommend specific settings for specific dimensions, as barcodes cannot be set to a particular size. We generally recommend one does not change the x dimension unless there are scalability issues for a specific scanner.

*For thermal/low-resolution printers (like Zebra), we do have some general recommendations.
