Encoded data for Code 128 or Interleaved 2 of 5 is incorrect

We try to merge data to various programs (InDesign, Word, etc) from Excel (using it as a datasource), but some of it causes unscannable barcodes.

For example, when we encode CS15-12001 with the VBA Code128 Auto function in Excel:

Code128("CS15-12001", 0, 0)

It comes out as íCS15-1‚4!bë, which I know is incorrect (I use the Code 128 Auto encoding from the Free Online Barcode Font Encoder, which gives ÌCS15-1Ç4!bÎ).

Can you give us an idea of what's going on?

James	Best Answer *2016 Update:* A new product (Native Barcode Generator for Excel) has been released since this question was resolved that offers an easier method of generating barcodes in Excel. The font encoding may show correctly in Windows Excel, but when exported to the Mac CSV file format, improper character encoding occurs. Mac uses character encoding that is not compatible with the standard IDAutomation Code 128 or ITF (Interleaved 2 of 5) fonts. Solutions for Excel on Windows: 1. Mac not involved (in implementation or with clients): Use the standard font packages and export to Windows CSV file format from Excel. 2. Mac involved (in implementation or with clients): Use the Universal Barcode Font and the Universal VBA function (or Barcode Addin for Word and Excel) to encode data and export to Mac CSV file format from Excel. The file type is Mac CSV.

Please specify the file type of file is exported from Excel. For example, Comma Separated Value (Windows or Mac CSV), Tabbed-delimited text, or another file type.
