Resolved Questions

Issue with Code 128 or Interleaved 2 of 5 using Oracle Reports and PLL with UTF8 setting.

We have got the issue due to the UTF-8 character set of our Oracle database. When using the source code, We are getting the following string from the encoder function for string “12345”:

IDAutomation.Code128('12345',0)

String: ,B5K

But, when I use the Excel sheet, the string is coming out to be :

The strings in both cases are different. The reason is, due to the UTF-8 character set. For any character with a value high than 127, oracle is returning NULL. The source code uses CHR 203, 204,205, etc.. and the system is not returning anything…

Can you please ask your technical support? There has to be some solution for it.

To generate Code 128 barcodes in Oracle, the UTF8 character set must not be enabled as it will not display certain characters required for Code 128. There are a few options:

Option 1
If you can remove UTF8, then you will be able to use the fonts to encode data for Code 128.

If you need this character set and cannot remove it and you are using Oracle Reports 9i and above, then please consider Option 2, 3, or 4.

Option 2
Universal Barcode Fonts with the Universal PLL to generate Code 128 Barcodes:

Option 3
Native Generator for Oracle Reports

Option 4
