Bug in 'IDAutomationDLL'.FontEncoder

We believe we might have found a bug in the GS1 encoding for SSCC-18. Currently, we are using an IDAutomation Crystal Reports UFL font encoder function:

FNC1 := ~212
AI := 00
Input := 08592907010307342
MOD := ~m17
Code128(FNC1+AI+Iput+MOD, TRUE )

Which has the hard-coded (static code) equivalent of:

Code128("~2120008592907010307342~m17", TRUE )

I get this encoded text: ÍEÂ([='!#'B:CÎ

The second character in the encoded should be Ê (ASCII 202, the FNC1), but instead is E (ASCII 69). On my system, the UFL does not generate Ê (ASCII 202, the FNC1). When I manually inserted the Ê (ASCII 202, the FNC1), my scanner was then able to read the barcode correctly.

I also generated a barcode at bcgen.com and it seemed to have the same bug.

When I used another IDAutomation encoder DLL in a different environment, running an RDLC report, the GS1 encoding worked correctly.

Can you shed some light into what I am observing?

Operating System: Windows

Application: SAP Crystal Reports, Microsoft SSRS

When I test the data locally, using the standard UFL encoding, it properly encodes the data as ÍÊÂ([='!#'B:CÎ.

It might be an issue with your local character encoding, which might not show up in another environment. It is for this reason we generally recommend our international clients use the Universal Barcode Fonts and their respective Universal encoding functions, which the UFL also contains.

When I test the data in the live demo of the Dynamic Barcode Generator Subscription SaaS pointed out, a correct barcode is produced (look at the link for the details):
